Today I am gonna sharing you this amazing Adsense trick which will make your Adsense ads relevant to your site content, and hopefully will increase your Adsense CTR and your earnings!

Most of the time Adsense displays ads based on the “user interest”, this means that whenever someone uses Google Search, Google will store a small interest based file (user last search etc.) as cookie, so the next time that someone uses Google search the ads will be based on previous interest or search!

For example you have a “SEO tips” blog, before arriving to your site someone might have searched for “best video games”, this data has been stored on that someone's computer in the form of cookie, now that the same person searches for “SEO tips” and visits your site the ads that the person gets will be based on “best video games” keyword because of the previous search interest (cookie) that has been stored in the computer. This is known as not relevant ads because the ads that users get are not relevant to your topic neither to your content, and this is really bad because it affects CTR and your overall earnings in a negative way, but don't wary there is a way to turn this function off!

Go to your Adsense account and click on Allow & block ads then click the Ad serving tab, under User-based ads uncheck “Interest-based ads - show ads based on user interest categories, and allow the use of visitation information from my site to help create interest categories”

Good Luck and have fun!

I recommend reading the AdSense DOCs and properly setting up according to the sites serving the ads. While this is a good thing to do, may not be the best route for every single site.

I have to agree with with Chod's statement don't try to outsmart Google because it's always backfires juts learn what Google wants and that should be more than enough!!

Quote:You can choose whether or not you wish to display ads that are based on user interest and demographic categories (for example, 'sports enthusiasts' or 'inferred age: 18-34').

Please keep in mind that by opting out of showing interest-based ads, you'll decrease the number of ads competing to appear on your website, which may decrease your earnings.

Invisible_dudes tips are valid and good. It just should not be looked at the only way. Your site is the most valuable thing then end users. Learn those two and after reading the docs you should know what best vector to go after to setup you campaign.

Why don't just test it for a few weeks with and without the interest-based ads then make conclusion!

That is honestly not a good enough test for true results.

If you see that it can impact your earnings is a negative way or it has too any unknowns then juts don't play with that option because it's not like you can reverse it afterwards!

Have you tried this new Adsense feature called "Adsense experiments"

Quote:Running an experiment allows you to compare the performance of different ad type and/or text ad style settings of your ad units. Experiments help you make informed decisions about how to configure your ad units and can help you to increase your earnings

You can also block general categories & sensitive categories of ads to get more relevant and high paying ads
