You can upload files to your web server using you web server control panel! Login in to your CP and go to File Manager.
However the best way to upload Files to Your Website is with FTP ( File Transfer Protocol ) client software! It's Easy & Secure! The commonly used FTP is called FileZilla it's free and easy to use.
Download and install FileZilla.
Open up FileZilla and go to File>Site Manager and click on New Site.
Fill in the Host, User, Password, change Logon Type to Normal! Ask your hosting provider for Host, User, Password!
Last thing go to Transfer>Transfer Type> and select Binary.

Go to Server and click Reconnect. Now you can transfer your files from your computer to your website.

If you have access to your server through ssh you can use scp to upload your files.

scp -i whereYourKeyIsLocated FileToUpload User@website.com:/where/you/wantTheFileToGo
If you want to download a file from your server to your desktop/dev machine.
scp -i whereYourKeyIsLocated User@website.com:/where/the/fileIsLocated /where/I/wantMyFileToGoOnMySystem
or to copy to the directory you are currently in
scp -i whereYourKeyIsLocated User@website.com:/where/the/fileIsLocated .

If at all possible shutdown FTP on your sever and use other methods. My personal opinion and of course not possible if you are using most hosting plans out there, especially shared hosting.

To transfer a record through cPanel's File Manager, kindly do the accompanying:

1. Login to cPanel.

2. Under Files, click File Manager.

3. Select Web Root and Show Hidden Files, at that point click Go.

4. Snap to open the organizer to which you'd get a kick out of the chance to transfer documents.

To upload a file through cPanel's File Manager, please do the following:

Login to cPanel.
Under Files, click File Manager.
Select Web Root and Show Hidden Files, then click Go.
Click to open the folder to which you'd like to upload files.
Click Upload from the top toolbar.
Click Browse (some web browsers will have Choose File instead).
Select the file on your computer that you wish to upload.
Once the file has been selected, it will automatically upload. You may select additional files while uploads are in progress.
